About SWARC

The Social Work Aging Resource Center (SWARC) provides support for increased aging-related learning opportunities for students and faculty at the San Jose State University College of Social Work.

Founded by Professor Michael Peck and funded by a curriculum transformation grant from the John A. Hartford Foundation and Council on Social Work Education, SWARC serves as a resource center by managing this web site of aging-related resources and job opportunities, sponsoring presentations from gerontologists, maintaining a hallway display that profiles current issues in gerontology, and creating  a library of gerontological social service resources.

Two current MSW students, Jeffrey Harding and Oona Houston, serve as project research assistants to help in the development of SWARC and the implementation of components of this grant. Both Harding and Houston intern at Adult Protective Services and are past recipients of a gerontology practicum fellowship.

SWARC's advisory board is co-chaired by Professor Peck and Dr. Migadalia Reyes, who is the Associate Dean for the College. Dr. Reyes will provide additional expertise about how to infuse aging-related content into the curriculum.
